What makes a wedding venue the right choice for you? After 20 years of coordinating over 700 weddings from parties of 2-200 I have a little experience in knowing when our venue is right for a client and when it is not. And we are not for everyone… That’s why there are so many venues out there! Here’s a list of questions to ask yourself when preparing to tour/choose/curate the venue for your special day.
1. Are you outdoorsy? Do you want a place that allows your guests to spread out, maybe by a firepit, play games, and have a relaxed atmosphere, or do you want a more formal setting with climate control, weather not enhancing or detracting from the event.
2. Are you adventurous? If it rains on your big day are you going to embrace it with a fancy umbrella and world’s cutest duck boots or will it destroy your dreams of the perfect day?
3. Do you want your ceremony area to be unique, timeless, a little magical or do you prefer to curate a more blank space setting to your standards?
4. Do you want the freedom to choose your own vendors- caterer, florists, DJ, bartender etc or are you okay with having those chosen or limited choices for you by the venue?
5. Do you want to hire your own wedding planner or use experienced staff provided by the venue to make your day happen the way you envision?
6. Do you want to do all the decorating yourself, hoping family and friends will be able to help to set up and tear down or do you want a team of experienced individuals to do it for you so you can relax and get ready for the best day of your life?
7. Do you want your pet to play a role in your big day and even spend the night with you?
At Fallen Tree we cater to the adventurous, outdoorsy bride that wants to arrive at the farm on Friday, enjoy a relaxed rehearsal dinner with family and friends, get a great nights sleep in one of our luxury guest rooms with a a hearty breakfast the next morning. Hair and Makeup come right to the property and prep you for the big event while we serve a light lunch to your guests at the house and staff set up the ceremony/ reception with your provided items so you can relax and enjoy the prep process. Weeks in advance we have place orders for tent/tables/chairs and designed floor plans for your event. When you arrive on Friday all that is set up for your approval. We’ll coordinate your rehearsal and make sure everyone knows their role for the big day. Our brides spend minimal on decorating, often saying the farm is decorated by mother nature with its woodsy enchanted forest secret garden vibe.
We can control a lot of things.. We can make sure your vendors show up on time and get the job done right. We can direct guests and help them get parked. We can shepherd your older guests to specialty parking and seating so they can share in your moment from the best possible advantage. We can set up your decorations, linens, etc and pinch hit with items in our arsenal when necessary. We can help you make tough decisions regarding timing, styling, headcounts etc. We can’t control the weather. We CAN prepare for it and have backups in place. And guess what… the 6 brides (in 20 years) that married inside the tent instead of our ceremony area due to the weather still loved their wedding days and found the sunshine of humor in it. In the end, you’ll be married to your best friend, in front of your best people and we’ll have done our very best to make it so.
Saturday night after the event is over those that are staying over until Sunday can gather around the fire pit with leftovers in their comfy clothes and relive the funny moments of the day. Cleanup waits until Sunday after a fabulous wedding brunch that involves Creme Brulee French Toast, Bacon, Scrambled Eggs, Chocolate Covered Strawberries and Mimosas!
